It’s undeniable: People want health care that’s less complex, more personalized and more affordable. As not-for-profits, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and Cambia Health Solutions share a vision to transform health care and improve people’s experience by thinking and acting differently. Working together, we can do better.
Combining Cambia’s expertise in improving the consumer experience through innovation, Blue Cross NC’s work in addressing costs and improving outcomes, and our mutual unwavering commitment to our customers, employees, and local communities, we can create the health care system individuals and families deserve.
Only by challenging the status quo together can we make health care better, simpler, and more affordable.
Improving individual and family health lies at the heart of our shared commitment. Investing in future-forward technologies, including data analytics, will accelerate the move to higher-quality, personalized, value-based care.
Less complex health care should not just be a wish; we must make it a reality. We will provide solutions that help people easily get the right care, at the right time, at the right price.
The financial strain of health care is unsustainable – people and their families deserve better. Working together will enable us to make health care more affordable by engaging patients and providers in new, deeper ways.
Mark Ganz will serve as Cambia’s Executive Chair. Ganz was named President and CEO of Cambia Health Solutions in 2003 when he defined the company’s Cause to create a more person-focused economically sustainable health care system. Previous positions Ganz held include President and Chief Operating Officer and Chief Legal Officer where he played a critical role in bringing together five health plans across Oregon, Washington, Utah and Idaho.
During his tenure Ganz has led the charge to create end-to-end health care experiences based on the needs of people and their families. In 2017, his innovative leadership and how he brought together Cambia’s diverse, consumer-focused board of directors was profiled in a Harvard Business Review article, “The Board’s New Innovation Imperative.”
Ganz served as the chairman of the board for America’s Health Insurance Plans from 2014-2017. He is also an advisory board member for the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics at the University of Southern California.
Patrick H. Conway, MD, will serve as Cambia’s CEO and will remain CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. In his tenure at Blue Cross NC, Conway has driven the transformation to value through new arrangements where providers and payers share responsibility for the total cost and quality of a member’s care. Conway joined Blue Cross NC in 2017 as President and CEO.
Conway most recently served as Deputy Administrator for Innovation and Quality at the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As the most senior non-political leader at CMS, he worked in both Republican and Democratic administrations and is considered one of the driving forces behind the national movement to value-based care, with health care payments tied to quality and innovation.
A respected leader, innovator and clinician, Conway was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2014. He is a practicing pediatric hospitalist and was selected as a master of hospital medicine from the Society of Hospital Medicine.
